Hartwich project recognized with Forestry Innovation Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sarapico 4.0, an improvement in the equipment used for planting seedlings in UPM fields, received the <strong>Rosario Pou Award for Innovation in Aspects of the Forestry Chain<\/strong>, in an event organized last Friday, March 24 at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Organized by the National Academy of Engineering (ANIU) and a foreign sponsor, the award seeks to recognize individuals, groups of individuals or institutions that introduce innovation in the Uruguayan forestry chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe forestry sector <strong>has transformed the primary sector of our country<\/strong> in a few decades, based on a State policy that has been maintained during successive governments,\u201d said Eng. Julio Fern\u00e1ndez, president of ANIU. \u201cFrom the Academy\u2019s point of view, we wanted to take this opportunity to encourage innovation, to recognize and reward innovation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<h2>Winning project<\/h2>\n<p>The winning project consisted of improving the <strong>equipment used for planting eucalyptus seedlings in fields<\/strong>. The innovation was carried out jointly by three actors: the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upm.uy\">UPM<\/a> (end user of the technology), the metallurgical company <a href=\"https:\/\/jhartwich.com.uy\">J. Hartwich<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utec.edu.uy\">UTEC<\/a>, the Technological University of Uruguay.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration and way of working within the framework of this project \u201cis an example that we should be able to multiply many times in our country\u201d, said Ing. Luis Mar\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez Moreno, who was a member of the evaluation committee together with Eng. Carlos Faroppa and Eng. Juan Pedro Posse.<\/p>\n<p>According to Eng. Federico Lussich, head of Forestry at UPM, \u201cthe main impact (of Sarapico 4.0) is to have a <strong>high precision in counting the number of plants<\/strong> consumed per plantation area and fertilized, which <strong>gives us this information in real time<\/strong>. And, in turn, to have the precise number of trees per unit area, which allows us to have the right distances between plants and improve the quality and uniformity of the plantations\u201d.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding: 56.25% 0px 0px; position: relative; text-align: center;\"><iframe style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/813372615?h=88edc758c0&title=0&byline=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/api\/player.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>The contest<\/h2>\n<p>In July 2022, ANIU launched the first call to participate in the Rosario Pou Award for Innovation in Aspects of the Uruguayan Forest Chain, with the aim of recognizing individuals, groups of people or institutions that introduce innovation in the Uruguayan forest chain.<\/p>\n<p>The contest honors the figure of Eng. Rosario Pou, who  <strong>has an extensive track record<\/strong>She has been a professor at the Faculty of Agronomy, deputy national director of Energy at the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, and a consultant for international organizations and national companies such as Comurex, which carried out the first export of wood to Finland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe activity of some enthusiastic people, such as Rosario Pou, made it possible for the forestry world to know that <strong>it made sense to invest in Uruguay<\/strong>,\u201d emphasized Mary Mochary, an American businesswoman linked to forestry since the early days of the sector\u2019s development in Uruguay. \u201cIn all these stages (of the forestry process), Rosario was a relevant player,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<h2>The award winners<\/h2>\n<p>During the awards ceremony, all participants of the Sarapico 4.0 project were recognized:<\/p>\n<p><strong>From UTEC<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eng. Javier Debellis<\/li>\n<li>Eng. Federico Lussich<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>From J. Hartwich<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eng. Carlos Hartwich<\/li>\n<li>Eng. Tobias Fast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The financial prize of the project, equivalent to USD 5,000, <strong>was donated to UTEC by all the winners<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>ANIU <strong>also gave a special mention<\/strong> to the \u201cTraining Platform\u201d project, developed by MSc. Mariana Areosa, Tech. Prev. Mariana Villemur and Esc.
