The Academies of Science (ANCiU), Engineering (ANIU) and Medicine (ANM) of Uruguay formed a working group to develop a set of recommendations on how they could contribute to optimizing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education in primary and secondary education in the country.<\/p>\n
The work, called \u201cSTEM education in Uruguay: Everyone\u2019s challenge\u201d, seeks to identify, promote and support the early identification and development of those children and young people with the greatest talent, vocation, discipline and ability in these fields.<\/p>\n
The working group decided that the first stage of the project would be to conduct a survey to answer the following major questions regarding STEM education for children and youth:<\/p>\n
a. What international best practices can we identify?
\nb. What is the current situation in Uruguay? What resources currently exist in the country and how do they operate?<\/p>\n
The document is the result of this first stage of the work and records the surveys of publications and recognized international experiences and innovative educational activities with STEM highlights that were identified in Uruguay. Finally, the document presents the conclusions drawn by the group based on the information gathered.<\/p>\n
This report of the first stage will be a fundamental and indispensable support for the next stage of work of the inter-academic group, which will focus on the elaboration of proposals that will contribute to promote and strengthen STEM education in the country.<\/p>\n
