(corr.) <strong>V\u00edctor Sp\u00f3sito<\/strong>.<!--more--> This article, entitled<strong>\u201cOutline of a regional sustainable development strategy in Uruguay \u2013 towards 2050<\/strong>\u201c, is an extension of a paper previously published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiu.org.uy\/publicaciones\">Ingenier\u00eda (<\/a> No. 101: pp. 76-90) of the Asociaci\u00f3n de Ingenieros del Uruguay. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/2022.aniu.org.uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bosquejo-de-una-estrategia-de-desarrollo-sostenible-regional-en-Uruguay-hacia-2050.pdf\">Access here the article in PDF format<\/a><\/strong> This paper presents an approach based on strategic planning to <strong>address the challenges of sustainable development<\/strong> in the country. With concrete examples such as blue-green infrastructure projects, green clusters and an integrated transportation system, Sp\u00f3sito proposes <strong>an innovative methodology<\/strong> that combines economic development, environmental sustainability and long-term territorial planning.  <\/p>\n<h2>About the author<\/h2>\n<p>  V\u00edctor Sp\u00f3sito is MPhil Regional Planning and Urban Design<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\">(The University of Edinburgh<\/a>), MSc Civil Engineering<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utexas.edu\/\">(University of Texas<\/a>) and <strong>Civil Engineer<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/udelar.edu.uy\">(Universidad de la Rep\u00fablica<\/a>). He is a professor (Hon) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ort.edu.uy\/\">Universidad ORT Uruguay<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deakin.edu.au\/\">Deakin University<\/a>, Australia. Over the past 30 years, he has alternated his <strong>professional, scientific and teaching work<\/strong> between Latin America and Australia. In Australia, he was executive director of Metropolitan and State\/Regional Planning in the Victorian Government, where he <strong>led multiple strategic projects<\/strong>. In Uruguay, he worked at Ancap (Paysand\u00fa) and was a consultant to the Ministry of Housing and Land Management (MVOTMA) in the formulation of a <strong>development strategy for the country<\/strong> and in the construction of timber frame housing using Australian technologies. He was also instrumental in the signing of agreements between the Government of Uruguay, Uruguayan universities and Deakin University, which instituted scholarships for Uruguayan graduates to study master\u2019s and doctoral degrees at the Australian university. Sp\u00f3sito is a Fullbright and British Council Scholar, a corresponding member of the Academy of Engineering of Uruguay and a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiu.org.uy\/\">Association of Engineers of Uruguay<\/a>; he is also a Fellow and Academic of the Planning Institute of Australia. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Note: This article reflects exclusively the opinions and proposals of the author and does not necessarily represent the institutional position of ANIU.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay (ANIU) shares a new contribution from one of its corresponding members, Acad.
