The National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay, in collaboration with a foreign sponsor, is pleased to announce the third edition of the Rosario Pou Award for Innovation in Aspects of the Uruguayan Forest Chain. This award seeks to stimulate the implementation of innovative activities that have a positive impact on the areas related to the country\u2019s Forestry Production Chain. The purpose of the award<\/strong> is to recognize individuals or groups, either individually or as part of a public or private institution, who have introduced originality, generated value, improved processes and services, or implemented new practices and technologies in the forestry sector, considering sustainable development aspects. Definition of the forestry production chain<\/strong> The forestry production chain includes activities ranging from silviculture, including genetic improvement and forest management, to industrial processes that transform and use the raw material and by-products, and the logistics related to the transportation, storage and traceability of these products. For the purposes of this award, innovation is defined as<\/strong> a product, service or process that introduces originality and novelty in the productive and business spheres of the country. The evaluation of innovation will be guided by the dimensions of embodied knowledge, novelty, implementation and value created, according to the OECD Oslo Manual. General aspects of the competition<\/strong> The call for papers will be open from August 15 to October 15, 2024. Papers must be original and submitted by Uruguayan citizens, indicating the sector of the forestry chain in which they are located. Entries may be submitted in person or by email, and the works must be sent in PDF format, optionally accompanied by an explanatory video. The prize<\/strong> consists of a symbolic element and an endowment of USD 5,000. The jury may also award mentions without financial compensation or declare the prize void. The award will be presented at a formal ceremony in March 2025, in the presence of the stakeholders and national authorities. Evaluation<\/strong> The evaluation of the works will consider the impact on the competitiveness of the forestry sector, the originality and application of the innovation, and the aspects of economic, environmental and social sustainability. The decision of the Evaluation Committee, composed of academics and external professionals, will be final and will be announced before December 15, 2024.
