The National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay (ANIU) is proud to announce that Prof. H\u00e9ctor Cancela, one of our full members, has been nominated and duly elected as president of the International Federation of Operations Research Societies(IFORS<\/a>) for the period 2025-2027. <\/p>\n

This choice not only reflects the international esteem in which Prof. Cancela is held, but also underscores the significant contribution of Uruguay and the ANIU to the global advancement of engineering and operations research.<\/p>\n

Prof. Cancela has dedicated his career to academic and professional excellence in the field of engineering, with an outstanding trajectory that includes important roles as head of the Department of Operations Research and dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of the Republic.<\/p>\n

His research has focused on network models and stochastic models, applied in conjunction with optimization methods to address complex problems in a variety of areas, from reliability and communications to transportation and production, making a tangible difference in the real world.<\/p>\n

In addition to his recent election as president of IFORS, Prof. Cancela has been associate editor and editorial board member of prestigious international journals, supervising more than 20 PhD and MSc theses.<\/p>\n

His commitment to operations research and its practical application in engineering has been an inspiration to students, colleagues and professionals around the world.<\/p>\n

ANIU celebrates this outstanding achievement by Prof. Cancela and is confident that his leadership in IFORS will bring a new era of innovation and international collaboration in operations research.<\/p>\n

This appointment not only honors H\u00e9ctor Cancela, but also highlights the quality of Uruguayan engineering and its contribution to the global community.<\/p>\n
