Hartwich and Digital Sense were the winners of the Rosario Pou Award for Innovation in the Forestry Chain, 2023 edition, for their automatic irrigation project with artificial vision.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The four engineers who led the development of the project were present at the award ceremony, which took place on March 14 in the Special Events Room of the Legislative Palace:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carlos Hartwich<\/li>\n<li>Adrian Marques<\/li>\n<li>Agr. Sebastian Toscanini<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"padding: 56.25% 0 0 0; position: relative;\"><iframe style=\"position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" title=\"Rosario Pou Award for Innovation in the Forestry Chain 2023 edition\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/925430171?badge=0&autopause=0&player_id=0&app_id=58479\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/api\/player.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><strong><br \/>\nThe project<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Through the use of artificial vision and supervised learning algorithms, the automatic irrigation machinery of the forestry-industrial company Montes del Plata, dedicated to the production of cellulose pulp, <strong>can reduce costs, increase productivity and improve working conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This technology, which is part of a project carried out by Montes del Plata together with Metal\u00fargica J. Hartwich and the company Digital Sense, was 35% financed by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the National Institute for Innovation and Technology (ANII).  <strong>allows to reduce irrigation costs by 50%.<\/strong>This not only makes the use of water more efficient, but also improves task times and work quality as the machine driver is exclusively dedicated to driving.<\/p>\n<p>Irrigation is carried out by a system that detects the plant and automatically discharges the necessary water in three simultaneous planting lines.<\/p>\n<p>The technology implemented enables <strong>a more efficient management of water resources<\/strong> by identifying the seedling in real time and applying the precise amount of water.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><br \/>\nRecognition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During the award ceremony, the National Academy of Engineering of Uruguay (ANIU) also thanked the authors of the paper \u201cTraceability in forestry applications\u201d, which was prepared by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information Technology Technologist Mat\u00edas Widmaier<\/li>\n<li>Agr.
